Once dried, the piece is incised and carved by hand and left to dry for a week in the open air. Next it is examined for defects and polished with sand paper. After it is fired for five hours at 1,472� F, the piece is dipped in a glaze made ko or rokfa Thai wood ashes, enriched with iron oxide for brown and cobalt oxide for blue. When dry, it is high fired for 12 hours at 2,282� F and slowly cooled in the kiln for ten more hours.
